A property developer is bidding to build a 26-storey tower block right next to one of Manchester city centre's oldest and best-loved pubs.
Arrowsmith Investment say their proposals will 'enhance and preserve' the 200-year-old, Grade II-listed Britons Protection.
Apex Tower, on the corner of Albion Street and Great Bridgewater Street, would include 72 two bedroom flats.
But Britons Protection owner Mark West said he 'dumbfounded' by the proposals.

He added: "We are vehemently opposed to it. It's just absolutely ludicrous.
"I'm worried this could mean the pub will cease to exist.
