I’ve found anecdotally through friends and family that Brits use a number of different methods to picking a bottle of wine. Some choose their bottle based on packaging, others on price, while others pick the ones with names they like and some just stick to the one they liked in the pub that one time.
It can be quite daunting, because there’s nothing worse than popping the cork or unscrewing the cap on a bottle of red only to discover you’re not a fan, or to pick up a bottle of white zinfandel for the in laws to discover they actually prefer Sangiovese.
But an Aldi wine expert has revealed her top tips to finding a bargain bottle in the wine aisles so that you, your guests, or those you’re gifting to will never be disappointed.

Sam Caporn, known at the Mistress of Wine, is one of just 410 people in the world who are qualified as a Master of Wine, and one of just 151 in the role. She’s been working with Aldi for five years now, and is regularly asked to judge at wine competitions all over the world, to lecture on wine courses, to lead tastings, and to assess some of the world’s finest private cellars.
