The heartwarming moment Kate Garraway's husband moves his arms to hug his son for first time since Covid battle has been captured in a new documentary.

The Good Morning Britain star has let cameras into her home again for ITV programme, Caring for Derek.

The follow up to her 2021 film, Finding Derek, shows the moment Derek Draper returns home after more than a year in hospital.

A former Labour lobbyist, the 54-year-old contracted coronavirus in March 2020 and ended up being put into an induced coma.

The virus caused extraordinary damage to Derek's body and he is now reciting 24/7 care after returning to the family home last April.

Kate, also 54, appeared on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday morning to discuss her new documentary.

The presenter said she was emotional as the programme played a clip of the moment Derek initiated a hug with his son Billy by moving his arms above his waist while sitting in his wheelchair.

Billy wasted no time in responding to his dad's actions and the pair shared a warm embrace.

Kate is then seen walking back into the room having missed the sweet father and son moment.

"I didn’t see this until I watched the footage, but it’s the first moment Derek moves his arm," Kate explained to GMB hosts Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid.

"It makes me cry now. This is the day he came home back in April. He moves his arms to hug anyone and it happens to be Bill."

She carried on explaining what happened as the clip played before she added: "That is the first we've seen him activate a movement that was prompted by emotion and not someone just saying, 'can you move your arm
