Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has retained Sam Bankman-Fried’s lawyer as he appeals a judge’s decision to deny him bail in his ongoing legal battle, according to Business Insider.
Diddy’s hiring of SBF’s legal representation comes after two judges rejected a $50 million bond offer, citing concerns over potential witness tampering.
Combs, currently detained at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, has enlisted Alexandra Shapiro, a seasoned white-collar appellate lawyer, to represent him.
Shapiro, known for her prior clerkship under former Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, is also the legal representative for none other than SBF, Combs’ cellmate.

SBF is currently serving a 25-year sentence following his conviction on charges related to fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy stemming from the collapse of his cryptocurrency exchange, FTX, and trading firm, Alameda Research. Shapiro is representing SBF in his appeal process.
The nature of the connection between Diddy and SBF, specifically whether their shared legal counsel arose from their time housed together, is unclear.
It is worth noting that Shapiro filed a 102-page appeal brief to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals last month, arguing that the trial judge’s exclusion of certain evidence unfairly disadvantaged SBF. Similar strategies might be employed in Diddy’s case.
