Four are people are known to have died in a fatal shooting incident in the US city of Tulsa. It was unclear what prompted the deadly assault however, at this stage it is that that an unidentified gunman fired both a handgun and a rifle during the attack at a medical building.
The alarm was raised in the city on Wednesday and police have gone on-record to describe the scene as “catastrophic. The tragic news comes just a week after 21 people were killed in a separate shooting in the US state of Texas.
Tulsa Police Department deputy chief Eric Dalgleish confirmed the number of dead and said the gunman also was dead, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. “Officers are currently going through every room in the building checking for additional threats,” police said in a Facebook post just before 6pm local time.

“We know there are multiple injuries, and potentially multiple casualties.” Police responded to the call three minutes after dispatchers received the report and made contact with the gunman one minute later, Mr Dalgleish said.
Police captain Richard Meulenberg also said multiple people were wounded and that the medical complex was a “catastrophic scene”. Police and hospital officials said they were not ready to identify the dead.
St Francis Health System locked down its campus on Wednesday afternoon because of the situation at the Natalie Medical Building. The Natalie building houses an outpatient surgery centre and a breast health centre. Tulsa resident Nicholas O’Brien, whose mother was in a nearby building when the shooting occurred, told reporters that he rushed to the scene.
